Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat crew were called to assist after a trawler Sally Jane, snagged a sunken yacht, Nicola, and hauled it to the surface just west of Hurst Spit on the evening of Tuesday 1 November.

The lifeboat, Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer), was called  to render assistance. However, by the time the lifeboat reached the scene the yacht had released itself from the trawler and had sunk again but not before the trawler had recovered some of its gear.

On a second attempt the trawler brought it to the surface once again but had to release it for safety reasons.

The Nicola was a Hurley 22 yacht which was last seen on her moorings on 3 October in Keyhaven. She was then reported missing on 26 October.
